Pilot phase · first event in October 2026

So everyone can follow what’s being said.

Verstehbar turns the spoken word at your event into live text: on the big screen and on guests’ own phones, translated if needed. No app and no sign-up for your guests.

Verstehbar in 39 seconds · film with music, no speech
Text version of the film

One room, many people. Someone is speaking at the front, but what’s said isn’t always understood. Verstehbar transcribes the spoken word live and translates it into other languages. Everyone in the room can read along on the big screen. Guests scan a QR code to open the captions on their own phone: in their own language, in the right text size, clear and easy to read. In the room and on your phone, for in-person, online and hybrid events. Speak. See. Understand. The on-screen text in the film is in German; English subtitles are switched on.

For events where everyone should be included

Not everyone in the room hears equally well. Not everyone speaks the same language. And the back row rarely has the best acoustics. Live captions help, without anyone having to ask.

  • If you’re hard of hearing,

read along on the big screen or your own phone.

  • If you don’t know the language well,

read along in the other language.

  • If you missed something,

    scroll back on your phone.

Made for associations, initiatives and NGOs as well as small and mid-sized organisers: panels, forums, talks, assemblies.

How it works

  1. Pick up the sound

A laptop receives the sound from the mixing desk or a microphone. It runs in the browser, nothing to install.

  2. Turn it into text

A specialised speech service with processing in the EU turns it into text as people speak and translates it if needed.

  3. Read along

The text appears on the big screen and, via QR code, on guests’ phones, in the language and font size they choose.

Before going live, a short setup check tests sound and connection.

What your guests see

On the big screen

Large, calm captions. Font size, number of lines, position and colours can be adjusted during the event, including a high-contrast mode (yellow on black). A QR code leads to the phone view.

On their own phone

Scan the QR code, pick a language, done. Larger or smaller text, light or dark, scroll back to reread and tap once to jump back to the current sentence.

What automatic captions can and cannot do

  • Recognition makes mistakes, especially with names, technical terms, dialects or when several people talk at once. Names and terms we add in advance help.
  • Text appears with a short delay.
  • Verstehbar does not replace human captioners (speech-to-text interpreters) or sign language interpreters. Where every word matters, people are the better choice.

What happens to the spoken word

Pilot phase

Verstehbar is new

We are building Verstehbar right now and will use it at a public event for the first time in October 2026. For further events, this means: we set everything up together with you, test in advance and support you on the day. Terms are discussed individually.

In the long run, organisers should be able to set up Verstehbar themselves.

Interested in live captions for an event?

Send us a few lines. It helps to know: date and place, roughly how many guests, the languages spoken and, if you know it, how sound is handled in the room.
